AAOCS Award for Scientific Excellence in Lipid Research
AAOCS Award for Scientific Excellence in Lipid Research is an award from AAOCS to a scientist from within the Australasian region that has made a significant contribution towards fats and oils research, either cumulative or one major advancement. The award is offered every two years in conjunction with the Section’s biannual conference and includes money towards expenses to attend the AOCS Annual Meeting & Expo, complimentary registration for the biannual AAOCS meeting where the award is presented and presentation at the biannual AAOCS meeting relating to the research. This years award will be presented on Wednesday 9th September at 5pm to Prof Andy Sinclair who has been one of Australia’s leading nutritionists, with much of his 46-year career devoted to the study of the role of lipids and fatty acids in human health, functional foods, saturated and trans fatty acids and long chain omega 3 fatty acids. This presentation will take place at the Waterfront Kitchen near the Deakin University Waterfront campus, with the conference mixer to follow. Workshop attendees are welcome.
Welcome Mixer Evening
The welcome mixer will be held at the Waterfront Kitchen in Deakin University’s Waterfront campus, 1 Gheringhap Street, Geelong, on Wednesday 9th September at 6:30pm. This is included in your conference registration. Workshop attendees welcome. Additional tickets may be purchased.
Conference Dinner, Thursday 10th September.
The dinner will be held at The Pier Geelong at 7.00pm. All registrants have a ticket for the dinner. Additional tickets can be arranged (contact Matt on email@example.com)
Posters must be attached to the poster boards and poster walls using Velcro (supplied). Presenters are encouraged to stand by their poster during breaks. All posters must be removed no earlier than 3:30pm on Friday 11th September.
There are prizes for best Student oral presentation and best Student poster. Other student excellence prizes will be awarded to promising student research presentations.
On-street paid parking is available on Cunningham pier and nearby streets; this is paid by the hour and is subject to availability. Westfield mall (access from Brougham Street) has a large paid parking lot that can be accessed all day.
Smoking is not permitted inside the venues.
Gull Buses provide the most direct route to Geelong from Tullamarine, with return services direct from the terminal. For information on service times you can book through their website http://gull.com.au/ (The Geelong railway station provides the closest drop off/pickup point to the venue).
Alternatively, a Skybus (http://www.skybus.com.au/) can be taken into Melbourne to the Southern Cross Station and a train then taken to Geelong (http://www.vline.com.au/pdf/timetables/geelong.pdf).

Getting around Geelong
The Geelong CBD is within walking distance from the conference venue. If travelling to the suburbs of greater Geelong taxis (see below details) can be booked. There are also a number of bus routes that can be used.
